Can Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) Really Help Weight Loss?

Denver patients are asking about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) more than ever, especially as a lower-cost, non-injectable option alongside or in place of GLP-1 medications. Here is what the research and my two decades in Denver compounding actually show.

    What LDN is

LDN is naltrexone prescribed at doses of 0.5 mg to 4.5 mg, a small fraction of the 50 mg tablet used for addiction medicine. At these micro-doses it modulates endorphins and reduces inflammation, which is why it is prescribed off-label for autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, and metabolic support.

How LDN may support weight loss

    • Reduces cravings and emotional eating through endorphin modulation.
    • Lowers systemic inflammation, which is a common obstacle to metabolic recovery.
    • Improves sleep quality, which is directly tied to appetite hormones.
    • Supports insulin sensitivity in some patients with metabolic syndrome or PCOS.

    LDN vs GLP-1

LDN is not as potent for weight loss as tirzepatide or semaglutide. Expect gradual, modest changes rather than rapid results. Many Denver providers use LDN as a companion to lifestyle changes, or alongside a GLP-1 during titration to manage inflammation and cravings.

    Who is a candidate

LDN is a prescription medication and requires evaluation by a licensed provider. It is often prescribed for patients who cannot tolerate GLP-1 medications, who prefer a lower-cost oral option, or who have coexisting autoimmune or inflammatory conditions.

    How to start

Ask your Denver provider to send an LDN prescription to RxByDesign, or call us at 720-507-6344 to coordinate a transfer. We compound LDN in capsules, sublingual liquid, and slow-release forms, and deliver free across the Denver metro.
